Friday is Photo Day

This photo was taken in Boulder Bay, on the walk from Taylors Mistake to Godley Head, looking at Sumner Head.

Although there is a street sign in this photo, there are no streets here. There are a number of signs that have made their way to this bay, such as bus stops, Mrs Mac's Pies, etc.

If you view this photo at its full size you may notice the snow on the Southern Alps in the distance.

Friday is Photo Day

This photo was taken on Thursday from the top of the Port Hills in Christchurch. I was up there with a group bouldering at Castle Rock.

The bottom of the hill is the location of a previous photo day.

Sorry about the delay.

Friday is Photo Day

This is the most recent of all the photos that I've taken. This was taken at the Queenstown end of the Crown Range.

Here is the view from within World Wind. You must have World Wind installed for that link to work.

Friday is Photo Day

This is a rainbow that was filling the sky near my house.

This is the same rainbow from a previous entry but I used autostitch this time. This is the only image so far that has turned out better than when I've done it by hand, and it's turned out a lot better.

The original image is very small in order to hide the major flaws in my handiwork. Though autostitch appears to have compressed the image vertically, it has automatically joined the rainbow segments, which I was not able to do by hand.

Go autostitch!

NASA World Wind Credits

I suppose it's about time that I mention something that has taken up a fair bit of my time over the last few months. I've been volunteering my time to the NASA World Wind project.

I've received credit on the nasa.gov site, I'm listed on the World Wind Central People page, and have a user page of my exploits.

And yes, I'm aware of Google Maps, Virtual Earth, Google Earth, osgPlanet, etc.

The Missing Fridays

You may have noticed that there haven't been any photos for the past two weeks. This isn't because I've run out of photos, or because I've cancelled the routine. Instead it's because I've been out and about with a mate from Sydney.

Good news is that there's a bunch more photos in the lineup, so stay tuned.
