Photo Day - 84 - Waterloo Bridge view Eastward

This is a view of the Thames looking to the East from Waterloo Bridge. The river is at low tide in this photo, compared to high tide in last week's photo.

Photo Day - 83 - Square Mile over the Thames

A few days after last weeks photo of a Thames oil slick there was a much more scenic day. This photo was taken in front of the Tate Modern looking over the Thames at the "Square Mile". I always appreciate the Thames more at full tide.

The Millennium Bridge is in the foreground with the City of London School on the left of it, with St Paul's Cathedral behind that. Tower 42 and the Gherkin are visible over the right pier of the bridge.

Photo Day - 81 - Christchurch Airport

This was the last photo I took during my April trip to New Zealand. It was taken at the Christchurch International Airport with a view out to the Canterbury Aero Club and the snow capped Southern Alps beyond.

Photo of Christchurch International Airport, Canterbury Aero Club and the Southern Alps in Christchurch, New Zealand, taken on 2009-04-21

I probably could have cropped a bit more of the runway out of the shot, but I like the message on the gangway, on the bottom left of the photo, too much to cut it out.

Photo Day - 76 - Bridle Path, Christchurch

The Bridle Path in Christchurch, New Zealand was built in 1851 and was the main transport path to Lyttelton. This photo was taken from Castle Rock; with the Northern section of the path and the monument to pioneer women visible in the photo.

The Bridle Path is often mistakenly called the "Bridal Path", however the path is named for the method of leading horses over the path and is not related to weddings.

Photo Day - 75 - Castle Rock, Christchurch

Castle Rock is one of the many popular climbing crags in Christchurch, New Zealand. As with the other recent photos of New Zealand, this photo was taken in early April, 2009.

Photo from Castle Rock in Christchurch, New Zealand, taken on 2009-04-07

This photo is looks like it could have been taken on the same day as a previous photo of Castle Rock. In fact, the photos were taken almost four and half years apart. With a bit of keen observation it's possible to see some of the larger additions to the city.

Photo Day - 73 - Cranmer Square

Cranmer Square is one of the main inner city squares of Christchurch, New Zealand. Cranmer Square is designated a Special Amenity Area and has a number of protected buildings. The building in the right of the photo is the formal Normal School built in 1876, while the oldest existing building in the Square was built in 1863.

This photo was taken exactly two months after the London snow photos during my April trip to New Zealand. I spent most of my time there soaking in the sun, which the next few photos in the series should demonstrate.

St George's Gardens is two former cemetery's that were opened in 1746 and heavily used until closing in 1855. It is known as one of the first graveyards built away from a church. At the turn of the 20th century the two cemeteries were converted into the St George's Gardens, and have been used and renovated as such since.

This photo concludes the series of photos taken on the snowy 2 February 2009 in London. Next week will conclude all the snow photos with a shot taken on the next mornings walk. All going to plan, the week after will be a New Zealand shot from my April trip back there.

Photo Day - 67 - Cardinal Cap Alley

The history of Cardinal Cap Alley isn't widely known, but it often gets a bit of attention for being "cute" from tourists visiting the Globe Theatre next door in Bankside, London.

Millennium Bridge provides a good view of the city of London. The guard rails on the bridge give an indication of the level of snow in the city centre that morning.

Photo Day - 65 - St Paul's Cathedral

St Paul's Cathedral covered in snow and from the South East vantage, looks a lot more isolated than it actually is. The previous photo was taken from the North West corner.

Photo of St Paul's Cathedral in snow, taken on 2009-02-02

I did have other shots of St Paul's that I could have posted, but since I've missed a few weeks, and the snow theme has gone on a while, I'll be skipping those and heading to the Millennium Bridge for the next photo day.

Photo Day - 64 - St Paul's Churchyard

St Paul's Churchyard was the next stop after Paternoster Square on my snow covered walk to work back in February. As promised Wren's Temple Bar is visible as well as the statue of Queen Victoria in front of St Paul's Cathedral.

The statue of Queen Victoria is to the far left of the photo, with the unrecognisable bricks St Paul's Cathedral being at both ends of the photo. The next photo day will feature a more recognisable view of the Cathedral.

Photo Day - 63 - Paternoster Square

The next stop on snow day was Paternoster Square. The Paternoster Square Column is near the centre of the photo with the London Stock Exchange behind it; Shepherd and Sheep if off to the right next to the Starbucks.

Temple Bar is to my back and will appear in next weeks photo.

Katie and Peter win Euro Millions and celebrate in Jordan with Rihanna

Katie Price and Peter André won the EuroMillions and celebrated in Jordan with Rihanna and the cast of the new Star Trek movie.

BBC Radio 1 has reported that Katie and Peter plan to purchase the entire F1 franchise and convert it into a reality show which will be broadcast on youtube with dvd sales available on ebay. The couple's Facebook site has been flooded with words of support from their fans, but an equal number of complaints demanding that they stop playing games.

Yahoo news and Google news are already featuring the Daily Telegraph reports that Katie and Peter will not be getting a divorce and that they are quite content now they have all the money they think they deserve.

If you came to this page hoping to get real information about Katie and Peter then I'm sorry to say you have come to the wrong place.

The above text is an experiment in search engine ranking. Google have made available an iGoogle gadget that lets you see what people are searching for. The above text incorporates all of the search terms in the 'Top Searches' and 'Rising Searches' for the UK.

This blog gets page 1 results for some search terms, so I wanted to see if I could achieve it with fictional information about real subjects.

Photo Day - 62 - Holborn Viaduct

Still continuing with the snow theme, this weeks photo is of Holborn Viaduct. The Holborn Viaduct bridge has various creatures that adorn it, four of which are visible in this photo. This photos shows a large winged lion, two small quasi-dragons, and the Fine Arts lady in the photo; and just out of frame is the centre of the bridge which has some proper dragons. I believe the chimney in the distance belongs to The Central Cold Storage building on Charterhouse Street.

The green barriers in the foreground prevent car damage to the bridge when drivers follow dangerous driving directions.

Photo Day - 61 - Holborn Circus

Holborn Circus is on my walk to work. This photo includes the statue of Prince Albert, a pink black cab and the St. Andrew church; all covered in snow.

The other well known landmark in Holborn Circus is the J Sainsbury headquarters, which was to my back. Apparently the 8 year old all-glass-exterior building is being vacated by Sainsbury's in 2011 due to heating and power inefficiencies.

Photo Day - 60 - Judd Street Open Space East Entrance

This is another photo of the Judd Street Open Space, the same park as last week's photo, but taken from the East entrance.

There are two foxes that permanently reside in the Judd Street Open Space. They can be quite noisy at night, and there doesn't appear to be an appreciable difference with the snow. Foxes might be cute to look at, but I'd prefer if they were silent.

Photo Day - 59 - Judd Street Open Space

Back in February there was some snow in London. This photo was taken on the Monday morning when London's transport system shut down.

Because I walk to work, I wasn't affected by the transport issues, tho my walking pace was slower. This is the first of several photos that I took on the way to work that day. More will follow in the coming weeks.

Photo Day - 58 - Parliament Square

Now that I'm in New Zealand on holiday I'm going to start posting photos of London again. This photo does have a New Zealand tie-in, tho. This is Parliament Square on Waitangi Day 2008.*

This is the first photo shown on here that's taken with my own camera. You should notice a quality difference with the previous photos. The photos in the coming weeks were also taken with my new camera and focus on the snow that we had in London earlier in the week this photo was taken.

* Well, not technically Waitangi Day. This photo was taken during the Waitangi Day celebrations on 7 February 2008, as opposed to 6 February which is the actual Waitangi Day date.

Photo Day - 56 - Nicholson Park

This photo is of Sumner looking down from Nicholson Park.

I'm catching a plane back to New Zealand today for a holiday, so I'm clearing out the last two New Zealand photos that I've got stashed. I'll need to get something sorted out for after next week or Photo Day will have to wait a while.

Photo Day - 55 - Guildford High Street

This photo is of Gulidford High Street.

This was my first trip out to Guildford and it was a fantastic Summers day. Being cold and Winter I'd love to be back in this photo. I'm heading back to New Zealand next week and hope there's some end of Summer warmth waiting for me.

Photo Day - 50 - Summit Road

This photo is the third in the January 2005 Akaroa series.

The other two from this series are the far end of Akaroa and the hills above Akaroa. With the December 2005 photos being Akaroa Launch and Akaroa Ramp.

This is the last of the Akaroa photos and the last New Zealand photo for a while, as I'm going to try and clear out some of the UK backlog.

Photo Day - 48 - Akaroa Ramp

As with last week's photo this was taken while having a Summers picnic in Akaroa.

Photo Day - 47 - Akaroa Launch

This photo was taken while having a Summers picnic in Akaroa.

This photo, and next weeks, were taken 11 months after the previously shown photos of the far end of Akaroa and the hills above Akaroa. There's quite a difference in the weather between the dates.

Photo Day - 45 - Tasman Valley

This photo is on the ridge of the Tasman Glacier, facing away from the glacier with the Tasman River to the left.

This is the sister photo to the photo looking at Tasman Glacier. I think it's the only photo I have of my travel buddy SJM, who was with me for all the July 2005 photos.

Photo Day - 44 - Otira Viaduct

This photo is of the Otira Viaduct joining the East and West coasts of New Zealand just after Arthur's Pass.

Looking at the Google Maps satellite view of Otura Viaduct you can see the road that this bridge replaced. While the incline, curvature and height of the bridge still make for an exciting journey it feels a lot less dangerous than the old road.
